  • Usage Data: App features used, frequency of use, excuse generation history, and interaction patterns
  • Analytics Data: App performance metrics, crash reports, and diagnostic information
  • Advertising Data: Ad interaction data and advertising identifiers for personalized advertising

1.3 Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect information:

  • Google Firebase: For authentication, cloud storage, and analytics
  • Google AdMob: For displaying personalized advertisements
  • RevenueCat: For managing in-app purchases and subscriptions
  • Google Gemini AI: For generating AI-powered excuses (content is processed but not stored by the AI service)
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) & Apple Push Notification service (APNs): For delivering push notifications to your device

2. Permissions We Request and Why

2.1 Internet Access

Permission: android.permission.INTERNET

Why: Required to communicate with our servers, authenticate users, sync data across devices, generate AI-powered excuses, and display advertisements.

2.2 Contacts Access

Permission: NSContactsUsageDescription (iOS) / android.permission.READ_CONTACTS (Android)

Why: To allow you to personalize excuses for people in your contact list. We only access contact names when you explicitly grant permission. Contact data is processed locally on your device and only names are used to enhance excuse personalization. We do not upload your entire contact list to our servers.

2.3 App Tracking (iOS)

Permission: NSUserTrackingUsageDescription

Why: To show you personalized advertisements based on your interests and app usage patterns. This helps us provide the app for free while generating revenue through relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings.

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • Service Delivery: To provide core app functionality, including AI-powered excuse generation
  • Personalization: To customize your experience based on your preferences, contacts, and usage patterns
  • Authentication: To verify your identity and maintain secure access to your account
  • Data Synchronization: To sync your data across multiple devices using Firebase Cloud Firestore

4.1 Where We Store Your Data

Your data is securely stored using:

  • Firebase Cloud Firestore: For user profiles, preferences, and excuse history
  • Firebase Authentication: For secure account management
  • RevenueCat: For subscription and payment information

All data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard SSL/TLS protocols.

4.2 Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Secure authentication protocols
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Access controls and authentication requirements

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

5.1 Third-Party Service Providers

We share your information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App:

  • Google Firebase: Authentication, database storage, and analytics
  • Google AdMob: Ad serving and personalization
  • RevenueCat: Subscription and payment processing
  • Google Gemini AI: AI-powered excuse generation (content is processed in real-time and not permanently stored)

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify.

We use third-party services, such as RevenueCat and Apple (App Store), to securely process your subscription payments and manage your premium access. We do not store or process your credit card information directly. Please review the privacy policies of Apple and RevenueCat for more information on how they handle your payment data.

5.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property
  • Prevent fraud or security issues
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

5.3 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you of any such change in ownership.

5.4 Artificial Intelligence & Third-Party Data Sharing

To generate personalized content and excuses within the app, Excuse AI collects specific contextual information directly inputted by you when you actively initiate the generation process.

The specific data the app collects and shares includes:

  • Recipient Category: (e.g., boss, friend, family)
  • Situation Details: (e.g., running late, missed meeting)
  • Desired Tone: (e.g., professional, funny, sarcastic)
  • Custom Context: Any optional, free-form text details you provide in the app’s text fields.

This information is shared securely with our third-party Artificial Intelligence service provider, Google (via the Google Gemini API), strictly for the sole purpose of generating the requested excuse text.

We confirm that our third-party provider provides the same or equal level of protection of user data as stated in this privacy policy. The transmitted data is not used by them to identify individual users or to train public or individual machine learning models.

5.5 Push Notifications

We may send you push notifications to your mobile device to provide updates, reminders, and other information related to the Excuse AI app. Push notifications are delivered through Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) on iOS devices.

Data Collected for Push Notifications

When you enable push notifications, we collect and store a device token — a unique identifier provided by Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) — associated with your account. This token is used solely to deliver notifications to your device and is stored securely in our database (Firebase Firestore). We do not use this token for any other purpose, including advertising or tracking.

Your Choices

Push notifications are optional. You may enable or disable them at any time through your device's Settings → Notifications → Excuse AI. If you disable notifications, your device token may still be stored in our systems but will not be used to send you messages until notifications are re-enabled.

Third-Party Services for Push Notifications

We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) by Google and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver push notifications. These services may process your device token in accordance with their own privacy policies:

  • Google Privacy Policy
  • Apple Privacy Policy

6. Your Rights and Choices

6.1 Access and Update

You can access and update your personal information at any time through the App's Settings screen, including:

  • Profile information (name, email)

You have the right to delete your account at any time. When you delete your account:

  • Legal Compliance: This deletion is permanent and complies with data protection regulations including GDPR and CCPA

  4. Confirm your decision

Important: Account deletion is irreversible. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.

Anonymous usage statistics and aggregated analytics data (which cannot identify you personally) may be retained for analytical purposes.

8. Children's Privacy

Excuse AI is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected information from a child, we will delete it immediately.

Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
